Measurement of PFAS using combustion ion chromatography.

Non-target complementary measurement of PFAS present in aqueous samples using combustion ion chromatography for AOF (adsorbable organic fluorine).

PFAS compounds include perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctane sulfonic acid (PFOS), and due to the increasing number of organic fluorine compounds that impact the environment and precursors that cannot yet be analyzed, there is a demand for the development of suitable analytical methods. As a result, there is a growing need for a single analytical workflow that can directly quantify as many PFAS as possible. Traditional ion chromatography (IC) cannot directly analyze non-ionic perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). However, using continuous ion chromatography (CIC), it is possible to measure organic halogen contaminants such as AOX. Unlike the conventional titration AOX method, which only measures the total organic halogens, CIC provides additional information on adsorptive organic fluorine compounds and allows for the speciation of halogens. *Please note that the ion chromatograph introduced in this application note has been discontinued. The successor model is the Thermo Scientific Dionex Inuvion IC system.*

LC-MS measurement of PFAS

Excellent compatibility with MS! Lot management as a PFAS analysis column.

PFAS (perfluoroalkyl substances and polyfluoroalkyl compounds) are persistent organic pollutants widely found in the environment. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) have initiated measures regarding PFAS. Liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) is used for the measurement of PFAS. Fused-Core technology and the 2.7μm particle Ascentis Express PFAS HPLC column provide excellent selectivity and peak shape for EPA methods 537.1, 533, and 8327. **Advantages of the Ascentis Express PFAS Column** - 2.7μm Fused-Core particles offer lower back pressure than sub-2μm fully porous particle columns - Excellent compatibility with MS - Lot management as a PFAS analysis column - Maximum operating pressure: 600 bar *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.*
